Day Trip: Ngorongoro Crater

Introduction

Ngorongoro crater is located in Ngorongoro conservation area in Arusha region. This natural amphitheatre is surrounded by steep walls raising to about 610 metres. The bottom surface area of the crater is about 240 square kilometres making it the world’s largest inactive, intact and unfilled caldera.

Day trip details

The day begins by an early pick-up from your lodge, around 06h0, in Arusha. The distance to Ngorongoro entry gate is three hours, 180 kilometres west of Arusha.  After obtaining the entry permit Loduare gate, the park’s main entry point, you will descend into the crater for tour. This is the world’s largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera with a floor area of 260 square kilometres and 610 meters deep. Ngorongoro crater is home to thousands of large mammals including rhinoceros, elephants, buffalos, wildebeests, lions, hyenas and many others. Birds are also well represented in the crater; ostriches, flamingos and other birds are easily sported in the park.

At around midday picnic lunch will be served at Ngoitoktok picnic site; with views of hippopotamuses in Ngoitoktok Lake. You will then be driven back to your lodge in the evening. The safari starts and ends in Arusha city or in its nearby areas.

Price of the trip

All safari prices in our packages are affected by the group size. Basing on two people group as the standard safari group size the price is 390$ per adult. The price per person is lowered by the increase in the number of people on-board the same vehicle.
